Happy Friday! It’s another beautiful day here in north west Pennsylvania. Can’t complain. I’ve spent the day doing laundry, but Nate tilled the garden and we’re enjoying some fresh air. I went to Erie yesterday. It was my first time there, and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip. We went to a few yarn stores- since there aren’t many in my area. First was Cultured Purl– a small, homey, shop with a great Debbie Bliss selection. I looked for sock yarn there (and should have bought some), but left with my first Addi needles (naturals) and a nice book of patterns for bigger kids. I was hoping to make something from this book or the ever popular Adorable Knits for Tots, but I opted for my own take on the girlfriend shrug in a new yarn I found at Michaels. It’s Patons SWS (Soy Wool Stripes) and it is made from 30% soy! It’s very soft and slippery. I’m using natural geranium, which is perfect for little girls.
We also went to Rustic and Refined, which had more “novelty” yarns, but still had a great selection. I picked up some Silky Wool there, in hopes of making Nate some more socks, but I’m not sure I got enough. I got two skeins of 175 meters each, which is a total of 350 meters. I might just squeak by. Perhaps these should be toe up so I can change the length of the calf if needed… Anyway- I picked up some dpn’s at this store, too.
After all that I started a new sock (can’t show you this one, though!) and started the shrug. So far so good. You wanna see my progress on Spartan?
Nice, eh? I think I either missed the gauge or just pulled too tight on the fair isle, but it just wasn’t fitting. So I ripped the whole thing back and started again, with the next size up. We’ll see how that goes.
Next post will have lots more progress pictures!
