Family Portrait

Not a professional one, but beautiful none-the-less. This was drawn by M, who is, to remind you, not quite 4.

In order from left to right (and up to down):

B, Daddy, M, Mama, Uncle Grandpa (?), K, Gaga and Popup.

I was blown away. 🙂

Toddler-ese

I haven’t written this kind of thing in a while, and we’ve had some goodies lately.

Here’s M’s newest:

Snoopy Doo

It doesn’t make any sense to me! (In response to anything she doesn’t like)

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way. Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one more soap and sleigh, hey!

After not being allowed cookies for a day- she got her “cookie villages” back (privileges)

Magi-fying wand (a combination of magic wand and magnifying)

And K:

Veggietales are known as “mail”

Imitating Periwinkle’s (the kitten from Blue’s Clues) magic words (Peri Pokus, Hokus, Crokus): prokus, prokus, prokus!

Our friends Dorothy, Erika, Henry and Aubrey are known as Dorfy, Erka, Hengry and Abra.

And best, my husband is officially known as Daddy-O!

Welcome Winter

img_0487.jpg We’ve had a bit of a cold spell here (as have many of you, I bet) and it has left us with the most beautiful snow I have seen in a long, long, time. All the trees are covered in this etherial blanket of soft white. You can see the layers of trees in the hills around us, just quiet and intricate. The snow highlights every last branch and that bluish greyish dusk color with Christmas lights around makes everything feel like you’re in a card. It is a bit cold for the kids, but if it’s going to be cold it might as well be pretty. Both girls have been having fun playing outside, although I frequently have to remind K that you don’t eat the snow off of the bottom of your boots. I think she would be perfectly happy with a bowl of ice somedays. No cream, just ice.

We ventured downtown tonight to watch the Christmas parade and look at the live window displays in some of the shops. It was a very festive atmosphere as Santa showed up in the bucket of a fire truck and we got 25% off our dinner by singing a Christmas carol in the restaurant. We are continually impressed by the spirit and activity in this little city.

OK- now on to new baby photos. Yes, this is the first shot we have of B smiling. Actually smiling! He is initiating now, and cooing/gurgling alot. Terribly, terribly cute. He started smiling the day after he turned a month old, so he’s had a bit of practice already! I have him posing with the cone of yarn Nate’s parents brought back for me from Peru (where they went on a mission trip). It is 100% pure alpaca, sport weight. As light as air, and bigger than my boy’s head! It is really that big. It is supposedly enough yarn to make two adult sweaters. I’ve already started on the Refined Aran Jacket from the new Interweave Knits and it’s very soft and drapey. My only concern is that it won’t have enough structure once it is sewn up, but a sweater is as good as a jacket in my book!

This other picture is just cute. Love the hand by the face…

Stay warm, everyone!
