My two girls are now officially in school- M in first grade for about two weeks now and K in pre-K for one week. I wish them off with a kiss in the morning as Nate walks them to school, backpacks rattling with the sound of lunch and little feet slapping up the pavement in new sparkly sneakers. Both kids seem to really be enjoying this new adventure. M has already made a fast friend (and is begging for a sleepover) and K is excited about playing and doing art with her new teachers.
A friend of mine suggested that we take a picture on the first day of school each year in the same place. Then you can see how much the kids have grown and how time passes. I love the idea, but it’s not going to work for us this year. Instead, I can look at my beautiful girls with their excited, sheepish smiles and know that they are happy. Public school does have its issues, but as long as they are happy and excited about learning, I really can’t ask for much more.
